“What gives the film its cohesion and integrity is its triumphant affirmation of a shared humanity. In the deepest sense, these children speak with one voice.” – The Australian

“An incredibly poignant, funny and optimistic film.” – Film Ink

Do you remember when you were 11? Australian filmmaker Genevieve Bailey travelled the world for six years talking with 11-year-olds to compose this insightful, funny and moving portrait of childhood. From an orphanage in India to a single-parent household in inner-city Melbourne, to bathing with elephants in Thailand, I AM ELEVEN explores the lives and thoughts of children from all around the world. It weaves together deeply personal and at times hilarious portraits of what it means to stand on the cusp between childhood and adolescence, that fleeting moment when childish naiveté has faded, yet teenaged self-consciousness has not yet taken hold. These young minds, still unguarded and remarkably honest, offer a powerful insight into the future of our world.

“There's something exhilarating about the movie's reach and quiet ambition, and the thoughtful, bold, confident, wide-eyed and expressive 11-year-olds at its centre.”
– Sydney Morning Herald

“Eleven-year-olds from around the world speak their minds in the charming and uplifting I Am Eleven. Carrying her camera through 15 countries, debuting Aussie helmer Genevieve Bailey displays a terrific knack for connecting with her subjects on topics ranging from religion to romance and the environment. Coming off a long and successful fest run, this simple and effective crowdpleaser has gathered tremendous B.O. and critical momentum since its two-screen local release July 5, and is now occupying 18 venues [in Australia].”
– Richard Kuipers, Variety, July 31, 2012

“Exhilarating. I Am Eleven is a film of great warmth, generosity and optimism.” – The Age

“Irresistible. By turns the kids are charming, funny, goofy and absurdly serious. They say childish things that sound remarkably like commonsense when set against the complexities of adult life.” – Financial Review
